BIO
Morgan seamlessly integrates the natural and the mechanical in his work, drawing on an extensive knowledge collected from his diverse background in circus performance, visual art and engineering. Transitioning to sculpture in 2013, he has accumulated an impressive skill set, agile enough to tackle any project.
His acclaimed works to date demonstrate his skill in merging art with modern technology. Notably ‘UKI’, a robotic insect vehicle, which has featured prominently at events like White Night Melbourne and Burning man, Nevada, epitomising his dedication to pushing artistic boundaries and fostering community engagement.
Morgan continues to innovate and establish himself as one of the up-and-coming names in public art. Having worked collaboratively fabricating and installing large-scale projects for renowned artists Dr Vicki Couzens and Stelarc and large public clients such as University of Melbourne, City of Melbourne and Melbourne Science Gallery.
In 2021 he was honoured with the City of Melbourne Open Innovation Competition award for his kinetic ‘Mira Solar Orchid’ concept. Mira is an ambitious project which will establish an interconnected ecosystem of kinetic solar flowers across the globe. It will create a meeting place for moments of reflection and knowledge sharing in our busy modern lives. Mira will enable us to observe and connect to what is happening to our natural world.
Morgan is also the founder and director of Pelican Studios, a Brunswick based creative space that provides a creatively rich environment for Artists and Designers to co-create under one roof.
Callan’s drive and adaptability see’s him fit to not only push artistic boundaries but to pioneer and set entirely new ones. His vision is to use his skills in building, technology and community to make unique gathering places of contemplation, education and resonance with the environment.
Multi-disciplinary kinetic artist Callan Morgan has a robust practice focusing on the intersection of art, technology and innovation.
